New Music: Butch Dawson – “Birds Fly” (Feat. Soduh)

22 Jul

Reppin Baltimore, rappers Butch Dawson and Soduh trade bars over dramatic production to let you know what happens “when birds fly.” Check out “Birds Fly” below and keep a look out for Butch’s upcoming record, Lower Mercury, due to drop next week on July 29th.

Mixtape: Buffa7o – Genesis

10 Feb

Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, up and coming rapper Buffa7o makes for an interesting listen. I was introduced to his music from his debut mixtape that dropped last month, fittingly named Genesis,. On Genesis we’re introduced to Buffa7o’s cold, confident rhymes, “suprised that I made it to twenty one. Young reckless and high as feens I thought that I would die a teen”. Buffa7o’s clever rhymes are peppered with religous references and the music melds from one track to the next well–making for a smooth listen, without production coming off as repetative or limited. Two standout tracks are the boom bap influenced “Stormborn”, produced by Jujuan Allen with Buffa7o dropping bars  about his beginnings and the bold, Hi$to produced “Lango”.  Genesis ultimately makes for a solid introduction to the new rapper, however it would be nice to hear more introspective rhymes on his next project. Check out Genesis below.

New EP: Shine – Water For Elephants

“Newly Released EP from 20 year old emcee/producer Shine ‘Water For Elephants’ – Mixes hip-hop, neo-soul, and an experimental genre to create a unique sound in order to convey a love story. Take a listen to his newest art piece.”

*Note from the editor: This MC from Baltimore, by way of Raleigh, NC is one of the illest rising artists I’ve gotten the pleasure of listening to and collaborating with. You’ll be very glad you listened to this tape. Follow Shine on Twitter @ShineIsIll.

On The Rise: Jordxn Bryant & D-Shine – Black Sunday

20 Mar

I’m excited to put you on to this project for multiple reasons. A. I’ve known and collaborated with one of these MCs since high school and watched his progression as an artist. B. This tape is ill…

Black Sunday is an 11-track collaborative tape by two rising MCs – Jordxn Bryant from Baltimore and D-Shine from North Carolina. These two up-and-comers may hail from totally different regions, but they make a great duo. D-Shine’s energetic flow serves as the perfect complement to Jordxn’s smooth lyricism, and both MCs shine equally on each track. If you’re looking for simple-minded music (I would hope you aren’t), you won’t find it on this tape. Black Sunday covers a wide range of subject matter, from women (“Back N Forth”) to the ills of society (“The Coexistence”). If you love Hip Hop, you won’t be disappointed.
