Freestyle: Saba Pivot – “Kentucky”

10 Nov

Saba, of the Pivot gang recently dropped a freestyle on’s relaunched freestyle series. We’ve been paying attention to Saba for sometime and if he’s been under your radar this freestyle makes a strong case of showing you how you’ve f*cked up. Produced by Saba himself, his flow on the track is vicious; with Saba proving to be one of the standout artists emerging from the highly competitive Chicago music scene. Check out the track  below as well as Saba’s sophomore tape, Comfort Zone and familiarize your self with Saba Pivot.

New Music: Beatking – “Solange Jay-Z Fight” (Freestyle)

14 May

Unless you happen to reside somewhere under a rock (and some rockdwellers may still be clued in), you have heard about and more than likely seen the TMZ leaked video of Solange Knowles attempting to beat down Jay Z. With the internet currently in a tizzy, it was only right that the “Ratchet CNN” aka “the Club God” aka Beatking would speak on the situation. Beatking hilariously interpolates samples of Beyonce fittingly crooning “swing low” along with Jay Z’s voice–doing what Beatking does best by creating a song that you can laugh at and jig to, at the same damn time. Check it out below.

New Music: Jay Rock – “Numbers On The Board” (Freestyle)

23 Oct

It’s the moment that many fans have impatiently been waiting for, and what some gave up on waiting for. New music from Black Hippy crew member, Jay Rock. Although it’s a freestyle over the beat for Pusha T’s hard-hitting, “Numbers On The Board” and not a new original song–it’s nice hearing Rock take center stage on a track, rather than just being a (standout) feature. Jay Rock sounds confident as ever and the track features some background vocals from Kendrick. Check it out below

XXL 2013 Freshman Cypher Round 1: Ab-Soul, Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Travi$ Scott

27 Apr

For those who haven’t checked it out yet, here’s the first round of XXL Freshman Cyphers. Looking at the MCs in the lineup, I was afraid Travi$ Scott might get left in the dust, lyrically. However, I must admit…he held his own. Check it out! We’ll be bringing rounds 2 and 3 to you shortly.

XXL Freshman Freestyles: Schoolboy Q

11 Apr

In XXL tradition, this year’s group of freshmen are set to have a freshman of the day, with each rapper having an individual “freestyle” on their day. Schoolboy Q set it off on Monday and Travi$ Scott’s freestyle video dropped today. What do you think of the freestyle videos so far and who do you think will emerge with the hottest freestyle video?

-Christine Ahamefule (@CleanYourNyash)

*Sidenote: It seems like xxl is running behind on their freshman schedule. Also, I’m disappointed that Chief Keef won’t be featured in the cipher or releasing a freestyle, despite of being crowned the “11th freshman.” Hate him or love him, a Sosa freestyle would have been entertaining to say the least.
