SICKERTHANYOURAVG Presents: Sangoma: The African Beat Tape

26 Dec

Sangoma Artwork

Many of you know (or don’t know) that along with writing about and promoting Hip-Hop music and culture, I also produce it. In fact, I’ve been producing it longer than I’ve been writing about it! For the past few months, I’ve been particularly busy putting together a special beat tape…one that fuses African music and Hip-Hop. Like many of you, I grew up listening to music from Africa. Some of the samples you’ll hear on this tape take me back to my early childhood years. I hope this little collection of instrumentals takes you to a happier place as well. Let me not talk too much. I humbly present to YOU…Sangoma: The African Beat Tape.

Mixtape: Q-tip & Busta Rhymes – The Abstract & The Dragon

12 Dec

abstract

Two legends in the game and early collaborators–Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip drop their much awaited joint mixtape, The Abstract & The Dragon. It’s great hearing Busta kick it up a notch after dropping some lack luster songs and any thing new from Tip is something to rejoice over, while still reminiscing over the old. The two’s chemistry on the mic is undeniable and there is some dope beat selection here; so check out this “boom bap gift” below. Enjoy !

*Sidenote: can we just take a moment to celebrate the fact that they changed the artwork for the mixtape https://twitter.com/BustaRhymes/status/403617388455018496/photo/1

Justin has been doing his thing with these new tracks and he’s clearly setting the blueprint for his new musical direction. Check out “Confident” below along with his subsequent Music Monday posts since “PYD“, and his music video for “All That Matters” (full of guitar playing, sensual gazes, all black outfits–the works).
