New Music: Casey Veggies – “Young N*ggas” (Feat. Juicy J)

29 Apr

Casey Veggies is certainly a busy young hustler. He recently opened the flagship store for his Peas & Carrots line in Southern California, and his PNCXX tour with Travi$ Scott is set to jump off in two weeks. In the midst of all of this, it’s nice of Young Veggies to still give us a new joint. The new song is an ode to youth, called “Young Niggas” and features the OG, Juicy J. The song is in the same vein of Casey’s most recent mixtape, Life Changes, and it’s nice hearing Juicy J on a more laid back track.

XXL 2013 Freshman Cypher Round 1: Ab-Soul, Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Travi$ Scott

27 Apr

For those who haven’t checked it out yet, here’s the first round of XXL Freshman Cyphers. Looking at the MCs in the lineup, I was afraid Travi$ Scott might get left in the dust, lyrically. However, I must admit…he held his own. Check it out! We’ll be bringing rounds 2 and 3 to you shortly.

Recent Discovery: Kat Dahlia – “Gangsta”

27 Apr

Kat-Dahlia-Gangsta-2013-1500x1500

Depending on who you ask, my recent obsession with Kat Dahlia’s “Gangsta” may be considered late (or not). The Cuban-American songstress caught my ears with her intense and honest lyrics. Despite her voice being compared to that of artists like Rihanna and Rita Ora, the rawness in Kat’s delivery sets her apart. The song pays homage to 50 Cent’s “Wanksta”, and I can’t help but think it would be interesting to hear “Gangsta” remix featuring 50 on it. Kat currently has a three song EP on iTunes and some other songs that you can find on YouTube. Look below to check out the official music video for “Gangsta” and it’s acoustic rendition.

New Music: Ab-Soul & Mac Miller: “The End Is Near”

26 Apr

Ab-Soul-The-End-Is-Near-Download

Ab-Soul is a bad man. Mac Miller is an ill MC. Larry Fisherman (Mac Miller’s alter ego) is a dope producer. If you put those three together, you get the “The End is Near”. I must say…Mac Miller did his thing, but Ab-Soul left this track smoldering before Mac even got a chance to enter the booth. Best line of the song: “I’m a king and I smoke a lot of weed/That makes sense, there’s ’bout thirty-three ounces in a liter (leader).” Check it out!

New Video: Ciara – “Body Party”

24 Apr

Leave it to Ciara to bring the sexiest comeback to a screen near you with the release of her new video for “Body Party”, a new single off her upcoming album Ciara. The video starts off at what appears to be your average ATL house party with CiCi joined by some of the hottest Atlanta rappers of today including Ludacris, Trinidad Jame$ and her newest love interest, Future. A steamy sneak peak is then given into what seems to be the Atlanta couple’s bedroom as Ciara seduces Future with a sexy striptease. Boy, has she grown up since the last time we saw CiCi showcasing her love life on screen wearing an Ed Hardy tee in the elevator as she flirted with her ex-boyfriend and newest host of 106 & Park, Bow Wow, in the “Like You” video in 2005! But I think it’s safe to say that the lace bra was a good trade for the baby tee.

Note from the editor: I’m more than happy to see Ciara back in action. Shoutout to our newest contributor, Taylor. Be sure to follow her on Twitter: @_TayRenay.

Ransom – “Open Letter”

23 Apr

It’s been two weeks since Jay-Z dropped “Open Letter”…and these rappers STILL won’t leave this track alone! You’d think it was the hottest instrumental of 2013 (No shots thrown at Timbaland and Swizz Beatz). It looks as if that “Top Ten Versions of ‘Open Letter'” list is going to happen, after all. This time, Jersey City’s very own Ransom (many know him as Joe Budden’s former friend/adversary) takes on the “Open Letter” instrumental. As expected, he kills this instrumental. Somebody sign him already.

Versions of “Open Letter” we have so far…
Jay-Z (The Original)
NatStar
Common
And now, Ransom. Who will be next…?

20 Grand Pikaso – “Life Is What You Make It”

23 Apr

I’ve been slightly M.I.A. lately. Finals are coming up, and school has had to take center stage. Shoutout to Christine (@CleanYourNyash) for holding it down in the meantime. While I’m here, let me treat you guys to this beautiful track. I was checking out 2DopeBoyz.com today and stumbled upon a track called “Life Is What You Make It” by a Brownsville MC by the name of 20 Grand Pikaso. I fell in love with this beat immediately. This track makes me feel good…hope it makes you feel the same way. Enjoy!

New Video: Miguel – “How Many Drinks?” (Feat. Kendrick Lamar)

20 Apr

Arguably two of the hottest “new” artists in the game, Miguel and Kendrick Lamar team up for a music video to Miguel’s single, “How Many Drinks?”. The song is light and sexy–the Clark Jackson directed music video is an extension of that overall feel, we also see Kendrick in some eye catching outfits.
Check out a behind the scenes look and the actual music video below:

New Video: Azealia Banks – “Yung Rapunxel”

19 Apr

The controversial Azaelia Banks has released a new music video for Yung Rapunxel–the first single off of her upcoming debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste. The video is very dark, to say the least; what do you think?
