Beyonce’s “I Been On” Remix just dropped today, and I must say it’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. Full of Houston heavy hitters including the predicted Bun B, the remix definitely holds it down for H town. It even leaves newer rappers *see Kirko Bangz* in a salty corner.

New Video: Tyler, The Creator – “IFHY”

30 Mar

Tyler The Creator dropped a new music video for his upcoming album, Wolf, which drops next week. The song is entitled “IFHY” (I F*cking Hate You) and features Pharrell Williams. The video places Tyler and the object of his affection as dolls in a dollhouse. The rest is up to your interpretation…

New (Soulful) Music: Rapsody – “Everlasting” (Prod. by Khrysis)

29 Mar

everlasting600x398

It’s always good to hear new music from a member of our Freshman Class. I almost broke my neck nodding to this new track from the first lady of Jamla Records. If this first single is any indication, Rapsody’s upcoming EP, She Got Game is bound to be something special (then again, all of her projects have been exceptional). On this track, Rap let’s listeners know that she strives for timelessness when she makes music. Huge shout out to Khrysis…this instrumental is something serious.

Throwback Thursday: Scarface – The Diary (1994)

29 Mar

Classic Albums

1994 was a huge year for Hip Hop. On the East Coast, Nas released his now-revered classic Illmatic and The Notorious B.I.G. released his timeless debut Ready To Die. East Coast (namely New York) Hip Hop was brimming with life during this period, but many tend to overlook the contributions of Southern artists during the 90’s. A particular lyricist down in Houston had no intention of being left out of the “classic albums” discussion. Scarface, one-third of the legendary Geto Boys, released his third solo album The Diary. The Diary is widely considered to be one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time, and has the distinction of being one of the few albums given a perfect rating in The Source and XXL. If you haven’t heard this album yet, now would be a great time to check it out.

A few of my favorite tracks…

“No Tears”

“Mind Playin’ Tricks ’94”

“Hand Of The Dead Body (Feat. Ice Cube)”

New Mixtape: Melo X – God:LoFi

Those who’ve been following Sicker Than Your Average remember that we picked 10 rising MCs and created our very own Freshman Class (Check it out HERE). New Music: Stalley Feat. Scarface – “Swangin'”

26 Mar

20130325-SWANGIN

My man Stalley a made a great choice in enlisting a legend to assist him for the first single off his upcoming debut album. If you’re a Hip Hop fan (especially one from Houston, TX) you should be very excited to hear the legendary Scarface on a track with MMG’s bearded MC-extraordinaire. If you’re not familiar with ‘Face, I suggest you look him up…right now. Besides the the presence of Scarface, I love the laid-back, dreamlike vibe that “Swangin'” gives. It’s also a known fact that I love slowed and throwed hooks. Enjoy!

New Video: Travi$ Scott – “Quintana”

23 Mar

GOOD Music’s Travi$ Scott dropped some new audio/visuals yesterday with “Quintana”, a song from his upcoming Owl Pharaoh mixtape. The full version of the song is set to feature Wale. Style-wise, the video is dope and we also get a quick cameo from A$AP Bari. This one will almost definitely be subjected to “illuminati talk”. Check it out for yourself!

New Music: Schoolboy Q – “Yay-Yay”

23 Mar

Yesterday Schoolboy Q dropped a new song from his upcoming and much-awaited album, Oxymoron. The song is called “Yay-Yay” and is produced by one of my faves, Boi-1da.
